Thought for the week: ‘You can, if you think you can.’
Most of us have thought it and most of us have said it. ‘I can’t’ someone will say to another, warranting the supportive response; ‘There is no such thing as you can’t.’ And that response is usually true and summed up by the title of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale’s book; ‘You can, if you think you can.’ And this week, that phrase was a valuable thought for not only the children but the coaches too.
A type of attitude seen very clearly in the Top Funster winner, or should I say, Top Funster earner. Harry Douris has been a FFF regularly for many years now, and this week proved just what a good player he is. His never say die attitude standing out above the rest. As the cup finals were contested there was a moment to sum up Harry. He had gone up one end and scored, but instead of celebrating the winning goal of his cup final, he recovered successfully putting in a last ditch block to stop the other team equalising immediately after. Did Harry think ‘I can’t’ at that moment when the opposition immediately attacked back? In a word: No. Harry thought he could and he did block that shot. It doesn’t mean you always succeed. As Zerai said; ‘Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.’ But, if you think you can, you will always have a chance.
Well done Harry and also well done to the Player of the Week winners; Luke Hooper, Jake Patel and Harrison. In fact, well done to everyone because you all made Friday the hardest day. Why? Because trying to select just four people out of the whole group is often the most difficult task of the week.
